    Gerrard Praised By England Squad

Manager Roy Hodgson had his full 23-man squad out training in Krakow as England continued preparations for Sunday's Euro 2012 quarter final with Italy.

Midfielder Ashley Young, who was an injury doubt with a shin problem following the final group game with Ukraine, took part in the session.

Defender Glen Johnson said the mood in the camp was good and singled out captain Steven Gerrrard for inspiring the squad during the campaign so far.

He said: "Steven has been a fantastic player for many, many years, but with the armband I think he feels he needs to step up just that tiny bit more, and I think he's done it more than anyone so far."

The players admit the excitement is building now the tournament has reached the knockout stage, and Johnson says they are being lifted by the support they are getting from the fans at the finals and back home.

"I've just been told about the record rating of viewers for the Ukraine game (18 million UK TV viewers), the fans are there to support and it feels like we're a big, tight unit.

"Any team in the tournament has got a chance of winning it. The first objective was to get out of the group, we did that very well by winning the group, so now it's a one-off game and in a one-off game you can beat anyone."
