Girls Missing In Iowa: Search Continues

Police are continuing to look for two missing girls in the US after a search by hundreds of volunteers failed to turn up any clues.

Lyric Cook, 10, and her eight-year-old cousin Elizabeth Collins were last seen at midday on Friday in Evansdale, Iowa.

Their bikes were found four hours later on a cycle path next to a lake in nearby Deerwood Park.

More than 700 people helped look for the pair over the weekend, according to the local media, and police have been going door-to-door and carrying out helicopter searches.

Meyers Lake, where the bikes were found, is also being dragged.

Evansdale Police Department said it is currently treating the situation as a missing person case, but is not ruling out the possibility that the girls were abducted.

Lyric's mother, Misty Cook-Morrissey, told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier newspaper that she fears her daughter has been kidnapped.

She said it is out of character for her daughter to go far from home.

The girls' grandmother, who was looking after the pair, called police when they failed to return to the house after a couple of hours.

A Facebook group set up to raise awareness about the search has attracted more than 1,800 members.

A reward for anyone who can help find the girls has been increased to \$15,500 (£9,900), according to local media.
