Halloween Mask Gang's Armed Raid On CCTV

CCTV cameras have captured the moment an armed gang wearing Halloween masks burst into a jewellery shop.

Three men, armed with crowbars and a hammer, got out of a dark VW Golf car at the edge of a shopping centre and walked a short distance to the store.

The trio - one wearing what is believed to be a clown mask with a black curly wig, another in a Halloween-style mask with a long white-haired wig, and the third wearing a "V for Vendetta" style mask with red curly wig - entered the shop and began hunting for jewellery.

They ordered two men to get on the floor and threatened a pregnant woman, who was in the shop at the Tyldesley Arcade in Wigan.

The robbers then stole a large amount of jewellery from the shop before running off and escaping in the car bearing false registration plates (number WJ60 FWL), which was driven by a fourth man.

The car was later found abandoned in the Whitley area of the town, but it had been stolen during a robbery in Withington on October 15.

The three men wore dark trousers, gloves and white t-shirts, with long-sleeved dark tops underneath and they were also carrying charity collection buckets.

Detective Inspector Martin Reddington from Wigan CID appealed for information about the incident, which happened on Tuesday, October 23.

He said: "These men have terrified staff and customers, including a pregnant woman, as they carried out this robbery dressed in horror-style masks and armed with weapons.

"These men even had the audacity to carry charity collection buckets as they committed this crime and showed no concern as they hurriedly opened and rifled through drawers right next to the pregnant woman."

Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 7295 or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
