Hershey Bears Lose to Connecticut Blue Whales on February 4, 2012

The Hershey Bears returned home for a game against the Connecticut Blue Whales on February 4, 2012. The previous night, the Bears had lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins after the Bears had dominated the first two periods of the away game. The Bears ended up losing in the third period after the Penguins scored 4 goals. There were high hopes that this game could be redemption for the Bears but it was not meant to be. The team is now tied with the Norfolk Admirals for second place in the East Division of the Eastern Conference of the American Hockey League. The Penguins are in first place.

The Blue Whales had gotten on the board first late in the first period, but the Bears had been quick to answer. Thanks to a goal from Cody Eakin, a recent addition to the roster after the Capitals returned the player, the Bears and Blue Whales were tied at the end of the first with a score of 1-1. This had been Eakin's eighth goal of the season. As it turns out, this was the only goal for the Bears that night. In the second period, the Blue Whales got a power play around the halfway point and took advantage of the opportunity. Around one minute later, after the power play expired, the Blue Whales grabbed one more goal. At the end of the second, the Blue Whales were up 3-1. The Blue Whales got one more goal in the third and the Bears were never able to catch up. The final score was 4-1.

Currently, the Bears are on a two game losing streak. The team has one more game to play this weekend, at home against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Hopefully, that game will be the one that finally lets the Bears get a win. The last victory for the team was on Saturday, January 28, 2012. That was an away game where the Bears defeated the Norfolk Admirals. The last game that the Bears won at home at the Giant Center was on Sunday, January 8, 2012. In that game, the Bears played the Rochester Americans. Though this was a tough game for both sides and the game went into a shootout, the Bears won the shootout to take the game 4-3.
