India Beat England In Final Of Champions Trophy

India beat England by five runs to win the Champions Trophy in a tense final that was reduced to 20 overs a side because of persistent early rain.

The hosts needed 130 runs to win but fell just short as India added the trophy to its 2011 World Cup title.

A fifth wicket stand of 64 from Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara had looked to have guided England to victory, as they needed 20 runs from 16 balls.

But they imploded under the pressure and lost four wickets in the space of eight balls, finishing on 124-8.

Captain Alastair Cook said: "I thought we bowled well, 130 you'd take that to chase but it was probably a slightly harder wicket to bat than we probably thought. It is just tough to take at the minute."

"I'm proud of the way the lads played in this tournament. We've been under pressure pretty much through the tournament and we've responded well and we just fell a little bit short here today."

Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 43, rescuing the team's innings when it was in danger of unravelling on 66-5 after 13 overs by sharing a crucial 47-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja (33 not out).

"This victory is sweet, especially beating England on their home ground. We had some bad memories in India but this victory is really nice and the guys have been playing beautiful cricket and really deserve this win," Kohli said.
