Jim Irsay and the Indianapolis Colts announced via his Twitter account "NEWS in horseshoe land, coming up...stay tuned to colts.com!!!". With every word he speaks, the world is waiting on news about star quarterback Peyton Manning. The team then went on to announce that they have completed their coaching staff for the 2012 season adding 15 new assistants to join head coach Chuck Pagano.
The additions included filing the coach staff on offense, defense, and special teams.
Defensive additions included Gary Emmanuel as defensive line coach, Jeff Fitzgerald as linebackers coach, Mike Gilhammer as the secondary coach, and Brad White as defensive quality control coach.
The offensive side was headlined by the announcement of Clyde Christensen returning to the staff as quarterbacks coach. The team also announced Joe Gilbert as assistant offensive line coach, Frank Giufre as offensive quality control coach, Alfredo Roberts as tight ends coach, and Chralie Williams as the new wide receivers coach.
Brant Boyer was named assistant special teams coach. He will work with new special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf to lead Indianapolis' special teams units.
Coach Pagano promised to assemble the best coaching staff in the league when he was hired. There is no way to know how good this coaching staff will be at this point. The season is still months away and the roster is far from complete. The team is sure to get younger and coach Pagano has assembled a veteran staff that has a lot of experience coaching football. Nearly every member of the coaching staff has an extensive background in the game. Hopefully they can turn that into success next season and for a long time to come in Indianapolis.
While fans will be underwhelmed with this news, it was a necessary step to complete the coaching staff. Now that the coaching staff is complete the team can start looking towards free agency and the NFL draft. Indianapolis has a lot of free agents they will need to decide on in the next month. The future of the coaching staff is known but now fans have to wait on bigger news soon to come.
I'll pass this news aside and eagerly await bigger news regarding Peyton Manning, Robert Mathis and other player transactions to come.
