ITN - Tuesday, May 6 01:10 pm

A 17-year-old boy has been stabbed in a park during a Bank Holiday game of football.

The youth is in a serious condition in hospital following the attack in Thornton Heath, south London.

He had been playing in a six-a-side game in Melford Park when he became involved in an argument with another player, police said.

The row escalated and the boy, who has not been named, was stabbed in the chest.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was described as being in a "serious but stable condition".

The attack was witnessed by a large number of people, but officers are keen to hear from anyone who could help identify the suspect.

He is described as a black man, aged 20-25, and approximately 5ft 7in, with a distinctive large Afro hairstyle.

The suspect, who ran off, was wearing a black and brown striped T-shirt, black jeans and trainers.
