Gold chain killer facing life

ITN - Friday, May 9 09:44 pm

A teenager who shot a youth worker dead in a row over a gold chain is facing life behind bars.

Junior Glasgow, 17, gunned down 18-year-old Nathan Foster as he sat chatting with friends near his home on a hot night in August last year.

Glasgow rode into Marcus Garvey Way, Brixton, south London, on a scooter and began firing with an automatic gun.

Mr Foster, who was sitting on a low wall at the time, was hit by six bullets including one through the heart.

Michael Shorrock QC, prosecuting, said the killing was revenge for an earlier incident when a chain was snatched from Glasgow's neck by Kori Bell, 18.

Mr Shorrock told the Old Bailey: "During this altercation, Kori Bell somehow removed the defendant's chain from round his neck.

"The defendant thought that Nathan Foster had been in some way involved.

"His way of getting even was to arm himself and shooting him. It was a cold-blooded, premeditated act of revenge."

Glasgow was told that there was no one at the scene who had taken his chain but was said to have replied: "You lot are trying to undermine me."

He was seen to take the gun from his pocket, aim at Mr Foster and fire.

The killer was arrested eight days later in Cambridge.

After the verdict, Mr Foster's mother Vanetta, sister Shannel and girlfriend Rochelle paid tribute to him.

The victim had joined the Ebony Horse Club, which teaches riding to inner-city children, at the age of seven and had won various competitions.

A statement read out on behalf of his family read: "This earned him loads of respect and Nathan was seen as a positive role model within the local community.

"Though this makes his death even more of a tragedy, his legacy has proven an inspiration to others."

Outside court, Detective Chief Inspector Adnan Qureshi said: "This is an absolutely tragic case.

"Nathan had recently become a father and was giving something back to his community by working part-time as a youth worker."

Judge Peter Rook warned Glasgow he will be jailed for life when he is sentenced on June 6.
