Killer Gets His Girlfriend Pregnant In Jail

Convicted killer Joran Van der Sloot, who is also the chief suspect in the murder of US teenager Natalee Holloway, has got his girlfriend pregnant while in jail in Peru.

De Telegraaf reported on Monday that the 25-year-old Dutch national, who is serving a 28-year-sentence for murdering a young Peruvian woman, confirmed the news himself in a telephone call.

The woman, identified by the paper only as "Leidi," was said to have become pregnant around three months ago during an unsupervised visit with Van der Sloot.

Van der Sloot was convicted for robbing and killing Stephany Flores in his hotel room in 2010.

He is also wanted for questioning by the US authorities over the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, an Alabama teenager who vanished while on vacation on the Caribbean island of Aruba in 2005.

He was arrested but never charged in that case.

However, prosecutors in Alabama allege Van der Sloot tried to extort thousands of dollars in cash from Natalee Holloway's mother Beth and other family members in exchange for information about the location of her body.

Van der Sloot's extradition to the US was approved on principle by Peru's Supreme Court but only after he serves out his sentence in Lima.

However, he could end up spending less than 10 years behind bars in Peru for good behaviour and then resist extradition by applying for Peruvian citizenship.
