    Japanese Fishermen Missing After Collision

A search is under way for 13 fishermen who went missing after a fishing vessel collided with a large cargo ship off northeast Japan.

The 119-tonne Horiei Maru and the 25,047-tonne Nikkei Tiger crashed about 900km east of Sendai around 2.30am on Sunday.

The Shiogama Coast Guard said the smaller vessel may have sunk. Two planes were dispatched to look for survivors.

Nine of the fishing boat's crew, five Japanese and four Indonesians, have been rescued.

Twelve of the missing are Japanese and one is Indonesian. The cargo ship and its crew of 21 were not hurt.
