Joan Collins recreates Oscars selfie… with mixed results

Veteran actress even asked Prince Charles to join B-list photo op.

Less than two weeks after Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres genuinely broke the internet with her now infamous A-list-filled selfie, Joan Collins decided she wanted a slice of the camera phone action… only it hasn’t had quite the same effect.

Veteran actress Joan posed for the celeb-crammed pic at the Prince’s Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success awards in Leicester Square – roping in actors Sir Ben Kingsley, Jeremy Irons, Dominic West, Luke Evans, singers Pixie Lott and Sam Bailey, Jools Holland, and of course, TV’s own Vernon Kay.

We’re not gonna lie, the substitute selfie feels a little bit “B-list” (we apologise Sir Ben), compared to the amazing Oscars image that has since become the most retweeted picture of all time.

Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Ellen Degeneres, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o (and her brother) and Angelina Jolie… It just doesn’t match up, does it?

Viewed from a different angle you can spot stragglers Tess Daley, Anna Williamson, Laura Whitmore, Gabby Logan and Phillip Schofield trying to get in the frame.

According to reports, Joan even asked Prince Charles to join in the Oscars-style shot. Unfortunately, he declined.

Keep trying Joan, keep trying…

Ellen Degeneres' original Oscars photo has since been parodied in numerous, and often hilarious, ways – including a Simpsons selfie, and even a bizarre Lego version:
