LG bows out of tablet market

With every Tom, Dick and Microsoft jumping on board the tablet bandwagon, it's perhaps a tad surprising to hear LG is withdrawing from the tablet arena, at least for the being.

LG has only timidly thrown its hat into the tablet field with the Optimus Pad being their only mobile convergence device to date. However, a spokesman for LG said they are keeping their attentions on the smartphone market that has seen the company become the world's fourth biggest mobile phone manufacturer.

"We've decided to put all new tablet development on the back burner for the time being in order to focus on smartphones," said Ken Hong.

LG distancing themselves from the tablet market comes a day after Microsoft unveiled their own Windows-powered tablet, the Surface.

"LG doesn't see Surface competing with anything we're focusing on at the moment," added Hong.

While other manufacturers compete with the iPad for tablet dominance, could LG secure vital ground in the smartphone arena?
