The funeral of PC Nicola Hughes, one of two policewomen killed in a gun and grenade attack, will be held later at Manchester Cathedral.
PC Hughes, 23, died in the line of duty alongside her colleague PC Fiona Bone, 32, when they were called to investigate a burglary in Hattersley, Tameside, on September 18.
A funeral cortege will travel from Deansgate to the cathedral for the 1pm service, with entry to the cathedral reserved for family, friends and colleagues of the policewoman.
However, a service will be broadcast on a screen set up in Cathedral Gardens for the public.
The funeral will be followed by a private service.
Central Manchester is expected to come to a standstill as members of the public pay their respects when the cortege passes through the heart of the city centre along Deansgate.
Those wishing to show their support are being asked to line the street by 11.45am. It will be closed to traffic from 11am.
Officers from forces across the country have volunteered to cover the shifts of Greater Manchester Police colleagues so they can attend the service.
PC Hughes joined the police force in 2009. Her family said she wanted to make a difference and was doing a job she loved.
Fellow officers described their young colleague as a chatterbox, someone always smiling, with a bubbly, infectious personality.
In the wake of the deaths, police chiefs said they have been overwhelmed and heartened by the public support with more than 25,000 messages of condolence on its website, 19,000 via Facebook and another 1,000 on Twitter.
Sir Peter Fahy, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, described the force's fallen policewomen as "two wonderful human beings, two very dedicated officers".
The funeral of PC Bone will take place at the cathedral at 10am on Thursday.
Dale Cregan, 29, is currently on remand accused of the murder of both policewomen, two other murders and four attempted murders.
