MarShon Brooks Returns but Nets Lose Second Straight to Pistons: Fan's Take

Rookie MarShon Brooks, who was chosen to play in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge, returned from a broken pinkie toe injury last night, Friday, February 10, 2012, but the New Jersey Nets, my favorite NBA team, lost to the Detroit Pistons, 109-92. The Nets grabbed a 7-0 lead in the game, but were then outscored 24-8 for the rest of the first quarter, and never got back in the game.

Nets Were Never Really in the Game in Loss to Detroit Pistons

After getting outscored by nine points in the first quarter, 24-15, the Nets got outscored by 10 in the second quarter, 28-18, and we trailed the Pistons, 52-33 at the half. We again got outscored in the third quarter, 35-31, and entered the fourth quarter down by 23 points, 87-64.

Behind Sundiata Gaines and Johan Petro, the Nets outscored the Pistons in garbage time in the fourth quarter, 28-22, to end up losing the game by 17.

Anthony Morrow, Deron Williams and Kris Humphries Awful for the Nets

Despite the return of MarShon Brooks, who scored seven points in 17 minutes after missing the Nets last six games, the Nets were just awful in this game. Sharpshooter Anthony Morrow, who scored 42 points five game ago against the Minnesota Timberwolves, missed all seven shots he took in the Pistons game, including going 0-5 from three-point range.

Deron Williams had 14 points, but went 0-4 from three-point range, and only had four assists in 28 minutes played. Kris Humphries only made two of nine shots in the game, and scored just five points and grabbed six rebounds. When Deron Williams and Kris Humphries don't show up for a game we have no chance to win.

On the positive side, the Nets other rookie, Jordan Williams, had 11 points and five rebounds in 25 minutes played. Sundiata Gaines has 13 points, six assists and four rebounds in 22 minutes played, while Johan Petro led the Nets with 16 points, and also had five rebounds. Gaines and Petro combined to make 10 of 17 shots (58.8%) in the game, while the rest of the team made just 21 of 57 shots (36.8%).

For the Pistons, Greg Monroe made eight of the nine shots he took, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for the only double-double in the game. Jonas Jerebko scored a game high 20 points, while Rodney Stuckey had 19. The Pistons shot 54.4% from the field in the game, and out-rebounded the Nets by 16 on the glass.

Detroit Pistons Have Won Four in a Row, Nets Have Lost Five in a Row

The win was the second in three days over the Nets for the the Detroit Pistons, who beat us, 99-92, on Wednesday night, February 8, 2012. The Pistons have now won four games in a row to improve their record to 8-20, the same record the Nets now have. The Nets have now lost five games in a row.

Losing Back-to-Back Games vs Pistons is Inexcusable

As a Nets fan, losing back-to-back games to the Detroit Pistons is really inexcusable, especially since we were never really in last night's game. We were in the game in Wednesday's loss to the Pistons, but prior to that the Chicago Bulls blew us out by 19 in another game we were never in.

Manu Ginobli Will Play Tonight for Spurs vs New Jersey Nets

The Nets play the San Antonio Spurs tonight, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at home. We better show up for the game, especially since the Spurs Manu Ginobli is expected to play after missing 22 games with a broken hand.
