Michael Jackson trial verdict: Dr Conrad Murray found guilty

Dr Conrad Murray, the physician accused of killing Michael Jackson, has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

The verdict was decided by a jury of seven men and five women sitting in an LA court on Monday after closing arguments from both defence lawyers and prosecutors.

Deliberations were expected to finish last Friday but jurors failed to reach a verdict.

The conviction comes after a six-week manslaughter trial in which Murray, 58, was accused of causing Michael Jackson's death by giving him a fatal overdose of the surgical anaesthetic propofol, combined with other sedatives, on June 25, 2009 to help Jackson sleep to prepare for his comeback tour.

Dr Murray vehemently denied the charges.

During the closing arguments on Thursday, prosecutor David Walgren said Jackson “paid with his life” for Dr Murray’s negligence.

Dr Murray’s defence lawyers said he was being held responsible for Jackson's own actions and that the pop star caused his own death.

Mr Walgren told the jury: “The evidence is overwhelming. The evidence is abundantly clear that Conrad Murray acted with criminal negligence and that he caused the death of Michael Jackson.”“

Conrad Murray gave him propofol and abandoned him Conrad Murray is criminally liable. Justice demands a guilty verdict.”

He added that Dr Murray’s actions left Jackson’s children Paris, Prince and Blanket fatherless.

Defence lawyer Ed Chernoff told the jury: “For a crime to be proved, the prosecution has to show that Dr Murray actually killed Michael Jackson.

“If it were anybody else but Michael Jackson, would this doctor be here today?”

Trial judge Michael Pastor told jurors they could convict Dr Murray even if Jackson contributed to his own death, if they believed the physician failed to use reasonable care to prevent that outcome.

He has been remanded in custody without bail until sentencing on 29 November.

Dr Murray could now face four years in prison.

Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon[s] should have been sued years ago for what they did to his face. Did they turn him away? No. Neither did this poor doctor. It's always someone else's fault - never taking responsibility for our own actions. It's a crying shame.

What about Michael's responsibility for his own choices?

yes lets sue and put all the docs in prison who made a mess of his face its ironic he did it to him self

Yes, but plastic surgery did not result in his death, did it?

Great. So he's guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Key word? Involuntary.
Now, this case is over. Go arrest some serial killers and mass rapists. Punish some real psychos.

Agree on the whole but the geezeer is a tosser for using Propofol - it's a hypnotic agent designed and licensed for use in induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia or deep coma in intensive therapy in UK. This doc either didn't get that or just gave it out willy-nilly on demand. Either way - negligent.

Im not surprised in the least, but not because I believe Murray to be guilty...more because the whole trial has been about viewing figures,im surprised Mickey Mouse wasn't sitting as the judge.
Murray has been tried for the addictions of a man who showed no sense of responsibility in his lifetime, and now after his death someone else has to take the wrap for that too...The American Judicial system is worse than the Italian one.

This also true. MJ must have been addicted to Propofol. Dr Murray should have suggested other methods or seek professional advice instead of continuing his treatement. I think the power of money made him lose sight.

Jackson was "killed "as a kid by his parents pushing him too hard Now the Family need a scapegoat to ease their guilt and the gullible doctor fitted perfectly. Never work with animals ,children and nutters with money

Dr Murray has been found guilty only because the victim was Michael Jackson, otherwise, he would be most innocent!
    • J  •  6 months ago
Murray did not stand a chance..

There was never going to be any other verdict!!! The only mistake he made was being involved with wacko Jacko in the first place.
    • SHONA MCGREGOR  •  6 months ago
well was he ever gonna be 'not guilty ' ??
    • MARIA  •  6 months ago
no matter who it was or whatever the circumstances to Michael Jackson's death- ANYBODY would have been found guilty. Dr Murray was guilty before the trial had even began. Michael Jackson knew what he was doing and would have paid anyone to get whatever he wanted, because he had the money. I also know that if i was desperately ill I would ask for assistance in my death to end my suffering.

So what next? the owner of the off licence that sold vodka to Amy Winehouse being charged with supplying with intent? Yet more proof the celeb world is full of cranks. Sad for Michael Jackson losing his life but sad also for Dr. Murray the worlds most famous scapegoat.
    • PAUL  •  6 months ago
It was obvious they needed a scapegoat
    • mike j  •  6 months ago
I think this Doctor was put in a very bad place!! he probably listened to Jackson's instructions more than anything and now hes paying for it
    • JOHN  •  6 months ago
It could hardly have been caused by the docs finances and greed, it was surely in his best interests to keep the 'golden goose' alive wasnt it?
    • Just.Jayne  •  6 months ago
