    Miliband escalates NHS attack

    By Ian Dunt

Ed Miliband will step up his attack on the government's NHS reforms today with a pledge to make it a "defining issue" at the next election.

Coalition MPs have long suspected Mr Miliband will capitalise on the health and social care bill at election time, but his intervention today reflects a toughening up of the language Labour is prepared to deploy as it tries to kill the legislation off.

"Before he became prime minister, David Cameron concealed his plans for creeping privatisation of our National Health Service," Mr Miliband will tell nurses on a visit to the Royal Bolton Hospital in Bolton.

"So people didn't get a vote on these plans at the last election. But I give you my word that if he goes ahead, they will be a defining issue at the next."

The intervention comes as 150 paediatricians wrote to medical journal the Lancet saying NHS reorganisation puts children's health at risk.

Next week, Labour has called a parliamentary debate demanding the publication of the risk register, which outlines health risks to the population from the reforms.

The government has appealed an information commissioner ruling that it be published.

When not in power all three main parties promise anything they think will be popular with the electorate, when they get into power the immediately renege on their promises and blame the previous government for creating a situation where they cannot keep their election promises and the poor electorate see the country continuing in the same direction whilst they divide us by keeping us arguing about each parties policies. All three denied us a referendum on the EU although they must by now realise the majority of the electorate want one.The definitely do not represent the electorates views and wishes so just who are they representing. It isn`t us.

Come on Ed you and your cronies almost finished the country with your incompetence but having said that please fight all attempts from your party to get a new leader. With you in charge we can at least look forward to many years of labour being in the wilderness Keep up the good work.

never mind the next election, all party leaders including mr cameron may not be leader then, the political scene changes almost daily, and i have to say mr milibands position is not as secure as he thinks it is.

He is correct to focus on this issue and Mr Cameron does need to explain why this is even an issue at when he gave a promise that it would not be a cause of concern. One wonders though if this is a smokescreen to divert attention from other concerns. My own opinion is that it is. l have decided never to vote for any major party again since i think now if it looks like a liar smells like a liar and walks like a liar it must be a liar.

I'm sorry Ed but you are not the one to lead england and neither is the other fool cameron, it's going to take someone very special, someone who has not been brainwashed by Eton to lead this once greater than great country back to glory, some one with great vision and grit.

Thing is its not just Ed Milliband and the Labour party - the NHS themselves - every NHS body - doctors, nurses paediatricians etc. etc. - are all calling for the Bill to be dropped. Cameron and his pro-privatisation millionaires are not prepared to listen.

The people you bring up all have a vested interest in keeping the NHS as it is though dont they?

tell me we hear all the talk scrap the nhs bill now.
then you get a load of whoever ,who say we need the update.
but the truth is when they say the scrap the bill they never give good
understandable reason to scrap it. its all jargon/percentages/we think.
there is no question the nhs does need some updating, but what.

Kazzy, what is their vested interest to keep it as it is. Private healthcare brings in lots of money so they may be better off. Maybe they understand how easy it is to get ill and the impact it has, and the cost hence understand what happens when free healthcare disappears.

He's got a bit of a cheek, hasn't he? After the mess his lot made of it, Stafford hospital comes immediately to mind. All he will do is arrange committee meetings and make more lists. The present lot are just as bad.

I'm glad Ed is growing a pair as well as a spine, if he is still in charge of Labour next election time all he'll have to do is smile and gesture at a list of the #$%$ the tories have brought in
