A US woman who admitted beating her two-year-old daughter and gluing her hands to a wall because of potty training problems has been sentenced to 99 years in jail.
Elizabeth Escalona had pleaded guilty in July to causing injury to her toddler Jocelyn Cedillo.
Prosecutors had sought 45 years behind bars - but the state district judge chose to impose an even stiffer sentence.
"Only a monster glues her daughter's hands to the wall," Dallas County prosecutor Eren Price had said during the hearing.
Escalona asked for leniency, telling the judge she was no longer the monster who committed the attack.
"I will never forgive myself for what I did to my own daughter," she said.
Police said the 23-year-old mother had lost her temper in September 2011.
Her other children told the authorities how she repeatedly kicked Jocelyn in the stomach and hit her with a jug of milk.
Escalona later glued Jocelyn's hands to the wall, according to the other children.
Doctors at the Children's Medical Centre said Joceyln was badly bruised after the beating and left in a coma for two days,
She spent a week in hospital following the attack.
The mother-of-five was immediately ordered to stay away from her children, who were taken into state custody.
Melanie Davis, who has been counselling Escalona, said her long-term aim was to have her children returned to her.
Escalona's own mother testified on Monday that her daughter was "not a monster" and deserved probation rather than a prison cell.
