Nato-Led Airstrike Kills 12 Afghan Children

Twelve children and two women have been killed in a Nato airstrike in Afghanistan, according to local officials.

The tragedy happened in Nawzad district in southwest Helmand province late on Saturday.

Dawood Ahmadi, a spokesman for the provincial government, said Nato was targeting insurgents but instead struck two homes, killing two women, five girls and seven boys.

Some of the children were under two years old. A further six people were reportedly injured in the bombardment.

Distraught father Noor Agha said: "My house was bombarded in the middle of the night and my children were killed. The Taliban were far away from my home, why was my house bombed?"

The strike apparently followed an attack by militants on a US Marine base in Nawzad earlier on Saturday.

The deaths have bene condemned by Afghan president Hamid Karzai who said he had warned US and Nato troops that their "arbitrary operations" were killing innocent people every day.

He said in a statement the incident was "a big mistake".

It shows that attention is not being paid," he added.

:: Afghan and Nato-led troops killed one woman and detained several suspected insurgents during a raid on a compound in the Musa Khel district of eastern Khost province on Saturday.

The woman was armed with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher when she was engaged by the Afghan and ISAF troops and killed, the coalition said in a statement.

Politicians and nappies should be changed often, and for the same reason

It always happens doesn't it. Israelis do it, the US does it and we do it. Bombing will always kill civillians. Twelve kiddies, it isn't acceptable or even necessary. If you cannot get to the terrorists and defeat them on the ground then get out of Afghanistan. This war will go on for years even when we get out and the Afghans take over. Probably they'll let the b'loody Taliban straight back in, Al Quaeda will still be around in increased numbers and all will be a waste of good b'loody lives. Defend the UK in the UK not in someone else's desert and rock pile.

Well said sticky beak. For NATO, USA, Israelis, UK (all major terrorists creators in the world) its like "TO HELL WITH" and who the "@#$% CARES" who ever and whatever number of innocent lives lost, its their war game of mere supremacy and nothing else.

I present an ultimate and guaranteed solution (money back guarantee) of all the terrorism in the world and that's for sure, i.e. all US, UK, Israeli forces get back to their dens and leave the whole world alone, move out of others' lands, don't poke their nose in others' matters and stop tyrannizing the world and see the peace with your own eyes. Otherwise, I guarantee this war against terror will never end and terrorists will keep on growing/multiplying like "amoeba".

On the other hand, if all those war addicts who are intoxicated with the power of supremacy and cannot pull back and are ashamed of reverting and reversing their forces then how long they can gain, only as long as the universe exists after that their ultimate and eternal destiny is the Hell Fire that Allah has created for all those miscreants (whether they are among believers or disbelievers). At least all those victims of their supremacy will get a big reward in the life here-after and all those war lords (whether be it George W. Bush Sr. or Jr., OBAMA, Ariel Sharon, Milosovic, Radovan Krajdic, Tony Blair, Cameron as well as all the allies and all those who are acting and obeying their orders to execute the killing) will have a very respective place in the devil's den that is HELL FIRE, just wait and be ready, one day they will die and they will face the death worse than a dog dies with "psoriasis" on the street.

Naive. The war there has never had anything to do with protecting anyone, if people look beyond a biased corporatised mass media. Just read 'The Grand Chessboard' by a leading thinker in Washington, Zbigniew Brzezinski. We are there for long term economic and geo-political reasons. It is an agreed unspoken taboo among media managers to mention the fact. Control of central Asia is essential to Washington/Pentagon strategists, sitting between a number of 'Stans' with considerable natural resources (again, these are rarely mentioned, but have been on occassions), and strategically between Europe, Russia and China. The public are duped. If we had really gone there to get Osama Bin Laden, as professed at the beginning (until the goal posts changed), we'd now have no reason to be there. Similarly, the Al-Quieda who did 9/11 were from Saudi. The Taliban were back then, a fundamentalist group with no international intentions like Al-Quieda, but merely had nationalist intentions for that country. The blurred lines and smokescreens are now so numerous, the public are in a fog about the entire issue. The NWO marches on...

The US forces have never been able to shoot straight. How many British Service personnel have been killed by "friendly" us fire. I remember one instance where the american pilot was yelling "shoot the @#$% down" whilst firing at a british aircraft.

Some proof please or perhaps more detail, i remember this being american a10 tankbusters and some british tanks during the gulf war. A hazy memory yet you quoted it and to think you are sat so far away from being able to get correct information.
      • Ted 1 year 0 months ago
Maybe more Taliban soldiers would be killed if we started supplying them with British army gear.
      • Pedro 1 year 0 months ago
The first 30+ British casualties in the Gulf War were shot, blown up and shot down by American 'friendly fire'..... With friends like them who needs enemies....?
    • Isabela  •  1 year 0 months ago
. Children are getting killed by Nato planes throwing bombs? This is absurdly incompetent and unfair. The fight should be restricted to the ground (or not at all).where both sides can meet on an equal basis and where less mistakes are likely to be made in targeting the enemy.
      • Elusive jim 1 year 0 months ago
I think you'll find that we'd love the afghani military to line up on the ground. The problem is, you dumb freak, that the "enemy" sleep at home with families and friends. lol I'm just imagining how you see the wars being fought. Have you thought of helping gaddaffi out he might need a hand with his combat strategies.

        Isabela, totally agree with you.

James, having read some of you oher comments, I've come to the conclusion that you're a shallow knob who can't express himself without some form of vulgarity.

Despite the fact that these wars are unfair in every sense, the 'enemy' has not been defeated - I guess that's scary so our allies are only good for hit and run missions, killing innocent children in heir wake, and will never be brave enough to square up to the 'enemy'.

I'd bet on the fact that James is jockiban/squadiban/taliban as a few others are around here are. It's these scum and the likes that are out there!

We see what the innocent people and children have to put up with, I'd also bet Nato is the same breed as jockiban/squadiban/taliban.

They are busy signing a few more death warrant's as they go!

Well done boys, the army must be proud of you lot of t0ssers for showing the true colours!

But these women and kids were not innocent victims like in 9/11 and 7/7......no they were collateral damage acording to the west. They are only innocent if they are British or American civilians. See how your identity changes because of where you live. Remember when these Taliban terrorists we are fighting now were Rebels and freedom fighters when we armed them to oust the Russians. Why didnt we just let the Russians sort them out......ask the CIA about that one.
      • Deana 1 year 0 months ago
I can see where you're coming from, Ronald, but has it ever occured to you that maybe the Afghanis don't want ANY foreign occupation of, or foreign interferance in, what is after all their own country?
      • William R 1 year 0 months ago
There has never been a successful Military conclusion to any situation in Afghanistan.Britain had her butt kicked a few times,Russia lost 60,000.We all know the cost,in financial and life, but nobody offers a figure of the Afghani casualties.!
      • Stefan 1 year 0 months ago
The point is - from Washington's view - to keep out Russia or China from Central Asia. It's about resources.

i for one have had a guts full of my tax money being spent on useless wars are we to keep driving our sick and elderly and disabled into the ground just so cameron can look good sending these boys over seas how many must loose their live just to make the tory twaaat look good for the next election no more wars and a better living for all in this country should be his priority the man is an idiot ruled by the usa
    • Greg  •  1 year 0 months ago
Yet another atrocity from NATO. "Collateral damage" is when they get who they were supposedly aiming at but get innocent people as well, but there's no claim that they had. No, assassination by aeroplane is just bloody murder. It's the coward's way of killing. You inevitably get many innocent people, but you're also betting that your targeting information is both correct and up to date. And, given that many raids, both bombing and infantry, are launched on the basis of maliciously false information, large death tolls of innocent civilians are inevitable.

The people of Afghanistan have the right to resist foreign occupation. The Taliban were terrificly unpopular at the point where the US knocked them over in 2001, but they have now come back with a vengeance. Why is that? It's because the occupation has been both incredibly violent and a supporter of the corrupt and ineffective regime of Karzai & his regional warlord allies. The longer that the occupation by the US & its allies continues, the stronger the Taliban gets. This is because they are the only way the Afghan people see of getting rid of the hated occupation. I detest the Taliban about as much as anyone in the West (& probably more than most, given my position on the Left), but that doesn't mean I support the continued occupation of Afghanistan in the futile attempt to crush them militarily.

      Troops out now.

Maybe the Nato Genereals and those pilots need to be charged with manslaughter those kids did nothing....Or is Nato saying they would have been future Taliban....Britian and America is fighting a no win war in that country....Get out and save the boots on the ground....

I am amazed, but not surprised by the kind journalistic language used in this article. Lets try and analyse to put things in perspective. I mean try, because I am not as articulate as our creative journalist. First, the author referrers to the twelve children and two women killed by Nato airstrike in Afghanistan as a "tragedy"! As if it was an unfortunate incident, . Tragedy is a word that we use to describe a tragic accident, unfortunate and unexpected accident, terrible side of life or drama. Now lets see how the same journalist/s (NATO, US & UK included), would describe the same incident had this "tragic" killing of 'innocent civilians', children & women was caused by Taliban. Our newspapers and politicians will have a field day. Their will be a festival of dramatic headlines along the lines of, 'Innocent children & women slaughtered in their sleep by Taliban', 'Islamic terrorist thugs show no mercy on its children & women in the massacre in the darkness', 'Barberic and indiscriminate killing of innocent children and women by Taliban', 'a cowardly act by Taliban', 'Removing Taliban is perfectly justified when they are killing their own children & women in this barbaric & inhumane way', 'We will hunt them down to remove them from our civilised society', 'Our fight will continue to protect Innocent civilians' (remember that word 'innocent civilians'), 'our fight with Taliban is just and proper in our war on terror' and many many other colourful lines. When the faceless NATO murder and kill defenceless children and women in the darkness, it is just a simple "TRAGEDY"!! If you have just come back from your Sunday visit to your local church, mosque or any other, please ask yourself, if you honestly believe that this war is just and proper? You decide.
After all this is not the first time this faceless NATO had killed "innocent civilians" that they claim they are there to protect. This is just a political illusion. NATO killers, Cameron, Hague and Obama can sleep happily at night knowing that their children and family are safe and sound. I wish I could say the same for those "innocent civilians" in Iraq, Afghanistan and now in Libya if they are safe from trigger happy NATO in the night of darkness and our Cameron who cares for them so much!! According to our journalist, this "tragedy" is one of the worst civilian death tolls by foreign forces in months. I guess, like this journalist most of us have managed to push aside all other killings by NATO in Iraq, Afghanistan and in Libya as 'tragic' without any blame on our friendly and trigger happy NATO. In the meantime, the only thing NATO spokesperson, Major Tim James can do is to say, he is aware of the reports of civilian casualties and more news will be released after the site has been inspected by alliance. I am sure that is a 'great' consolation for those who died for no reason while the trigger happy NATO who dropped the bombs go unpunished without even telling off!!

Really what is the difference between NATo and Terrorists??? Can some1 explain, because all Nato does is fly planes and drop bombs everywhere, What wrong had these kids done? NOTHING
    • Graham  •  1 year 0 months ago
The NATO alliance countries have no right whatsoever to be in Afganistan, Iraq or Libya. How can they call natives of those countries terrorists and insurgents when actually the terror is comming from NATO countries attacking people in their own countries.

How can we support the murder of these people in our name? I am not only referring to the civilian women and children but also to people who take up arms to defend their country against attack by foreign invaders.

Wouldn't we take up arms against foreign invaders of our own countries?

Is Nato Airstrike CODE For US Airstrike?
    • Shaky  •  1 year 0 months ago
This comes from a very highly advanced and sophisticated Army, comprising of US UK and other developed nations.Very shameful..If they can pinpoint Osama then how come these cowards keep bombaing residential houses full of families and kids. Agreed that sometimes militant hide among families but isnt the job of intelligence to assess the risk of kids getting killed?
Secondly, why the West is playing toy with Afghanistan? HAd the same incident done by Indian, Pakistani or by some African Army , the West would have been too critical about it, isnt?Look what they are doing in Libya now?

There is no explanation for killing kids by NATO exept that they-NATO- are over the international laws and they have psychiatric illness (paranoia), I urge all the wise people to rise up against the NATO and UN .
