The Faces Of Norway Massacre Victims

Details have emerged of some of the 76 victims who were killed in a bomb attack and shooting spree in Norway.

So far, only four names have been confirmed by police.

The victims' identities were revealed at 6pm (local time) and officers said they would continue to name those who died, at the same time each day.

Three were among eight who died in the explosion allegedly carried out by Anders Breivik in the capital Oslo last Friday.

The trio were Aashill Knutsen, 56, Hanna Endresen, 61, and 33-year-old Kai Hauge.

The death of 23-year-old Gunnar Linaker has also been confirmed by officers. He lost his life when Breivik apparently opened fire during a youth summer camp on Utoya island, outside the city.

At least 68 people were killed or are unaccounted for following the gun rampage.

:: Gunnar Linaker was described by his family as a "big bear".

His father was talking to his son on the phone when the gunman launched his attack and said: "The last thing I heard was: 'Dad, dad there is a shooting, I have to go."

:: Trond Berntsen , 51, and the stepbrother of Crown Princess Mette-Marit was also among those who died on Utoya.

He was an off-duty police officer and reports suggest he saved his 10-year-old son before approaching the gunman, but became one of his first victims.

Other names of people thought to have died in the atrocities have been reported in the media.

The youngest victim is believed to be 14-year-old Johannes Buo , an AUP activist from southern Norway who has not been seen since the shooting.

Young politician Tore Eikeland , 21, was the leader of the Labour youth movement in the county of Hordaland in western Norway.

The mayor of his home town described him as "very talented and one of the most solid youths I have ever met".

Monica Bosei , 45, was also among the victims. Prime minister Jens Stoltenberg knew the mother-of-two personally and said: "For a lot of us she was Utoya."

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, who were also on the island when the terror unfolded.

Hanne Kristine Fridtun , 20, is from Stryn, more than six hours north of Oslo.

She is currently listed as missing. At around 6pm on Friday she called a television station and said she was hiding with around 20 others.

It is thought she tried to swim away from the island.

The family of Emil Okkenhaug , who was on his first political summer camp, fear the worst as the 15-year-old is also missing following the shooting.

Ismail Haji Ahmed , 20, was a talented dancer who had appeared on Norway's Got Talent, using the name Isma Brown.

Friend Mohamed Abdi Farah paid tribute to the youngster on Facebook posting: "My twin Isma, my true best friend who means everything to me, I will always love you."

Anders Kristiansen , 18, reportedly helped found the AUF (Workers' Youth League) in his hometown, Bardstown.

Torjus Blattmann 's family also turned to the social networking site to express their agony over their 17-year-old son's shooting death.

"Torjus was an incredibly fine and good and loving boy and what we are experiencing is completely unreal and so incredibly painful," his father wrote online.

President at his school, Simon Saebo , 18, was from Troms in northern Norway. He was given the nickname amongst his friends as JF Kennedy.

Snorre Haller , 30, was a painter who was described as "kind, generous and quiet". He was invited to the camp on the island as a guest of one of the political committees.

The family of Marianne Sandvik , 16, are also holding out hope as they await news of their daughter.

She has not been seen since the shooting.

Others who are missing, feared dead, include:

:: Oslo university student Havard Vederhus , 21. His friends and family have said they are "waiting for a miracle" for him to come home safely.

A friend wrote on Facebook: "You are a born leader and good to all. I will miss those long discussions we had a bout politics."

:: Jamil Rafal Yasin , 20, who had lived in Norway after seeking refuge with her family as a child from war-torn Iraq. Her brother survived the island shooting.

:: 17-year-old chef Syvert Knudsen . His stepfather said the youth has not answered his phone since the gunman attack. He added: "There isn't much hope, but it's important for us that he is found."

:: Tarald Mjelde , 18, who was described by friends as "the little big boy with an enthusiasm that infected everyone around him".

:: The director of Hauguland Labour Youth Sondre Dale . The 17-year-old was a distinguished leader in political debate in his local county and in his spare time played guitar in two bands.

On Facebook, friends held hope he was still alive and created a group, "Sondre Dale you have to get home safely".

Another victim was 17-year-old Andrine Bakkene Espeland . Many of her friends have turned to the internet to pay tribute to the teenager.

Friend Anna Karoline Kvarsnes posted on Facebook: "Andrine, you were a wonderful person, a person that we all should follow and look up to. Now you're gone, and it is absolutely terrible."

The families of passionate conservationist Guro Vartdal Havoll , budding musician Aleksander Aas Eriksen , 16, and Christopher Perreau are still awaiting confirmation from police as to whether their loved ones were killed.

As the identities of the victims continue to be revealed, tens of thousands of Norwegians who reject Breivik's paranoid ideology gathered in central Oslo.

They mourned the victims as they lay thousands of flowers and light candles around the city.

Police believe 32-year-old Breivik acted alone, despite his grand claims in a 1,500-page manifesto that he belonged to a modern group of crusaders .
