Olympic Bus Tragedy: Girlfriend's Tribute

Olympic Bus Tragedy: Girlfriend's Tribute

The girlfriend of Daniel Harris, who was run over by a London 2012 bus near the Olympic Park, has paid an emotional tribute to the cyclist.

Mr Harris, from Ilford, died on Wednesday night after being hit by a double-decker carrying journalists in Stratford, east London.

His girlfriend Cecilia Dominici posted a photo of the two together with the caption: "My silly English boy, the love of my life, my boo. I don't know how to live without you.

"Thank you for the kind messages and lovely words about our relationship. @gecko84 (Mr Harris' Twitter handle) would have been deeply moved."

Safety campaigners said Mr Harris was the 10th cyclist to die in London since January, the same number as in the whole of 2010.

At this rate, the number of cyclists killed on London's roads will exceed last year's death toll of 16, campaign groups fear.

An inquest into Mr Harris' death has been opened and adjourned until August 31 at Poplar Coroner's Court.

The incident prompted widespread calls to improve safety for road cyclists - and the campaign for bike safety found support in cycling gold medal winner Bradley Wiggins.

After the death of Mr Harris, a 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed pending further investigation to a date in late August.
