One Dead, Many Hurt As Beer Tent Blown Away

One person has died and more than a dozen were taken to a hospital after high winds blew over a beer tent near a baseball stadium in America.

A few hundred people were celebrating a victory by the Cardinals baseball team over the Milwaukee Brewers when tragedy struck near the Busch stadium in St Louis.

Local media reported that the dead man suffered a heart attack during the commotion after the 80mph winds hit the tent at Kilroy's Sports Bar at 3.50pm on Saturday.

Kilroy's owner Art Randall said metal chairs were flung across the beer garden by the storm.

"I thought a train fell off the track," he said.

"We all ducked for cover. Everything was going sideways. I had metal chairs ripping
across the beer garden."

Witnesses said the winds lasted several seconds and estimated their speed at between 60 to 80 mph.

Emergency officials said 16 people were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to very serious.

Fire officials said five people were in critical condition and 100 people were treated at the scene.
