100 years since the death of William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army

It is 100 years since William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army, died and was buried in North London. The organisation said he had 'laid down his sword'. Tens of thousands of people saw his body lie in state and attended the public memorial service. His son, Bramwell, then took up the post of 'general' in the organisation following his father's death.
