We need to give the police the power to deal with this properly. Would you want to try to stop some thug from breaking a shop window if you knew that as soon as you touched them you would be risking your career? The police need the protection and support of society to enforce our laws. If it means bloodying a nose or twisting an arm - so be it. When you are dealing with people of such limited intelligence( the rioters) then we can cannot expect them to "respect" the police. Respect is a pretty abstract concept. Lets give law breakers something to fear. If a police mean breaks your nose whilst stopping you mugging an old lady; tough, you shouldn't have been doing it. Actions must have consequences.

All those who have been arrested should be out there clearing up the streets supervised by the army.

All those found guiltyof deliberate criminal activity should have all their benefits stopped.

When the scum try to stop firefighters doing their job turn the hoses on them.

This horrendous situation has been on the cards for a long time. The Labour Party need not blame today's Government because they stood by and did nothing as well. This all stems from lack of discipline in the home and in the classroom. The youth of today know they can get away with anything and so do not care what they do. I do not understand why the Army is not deployed to sort out these rioters with water canons etc. like they do in other countries. This country is a joke and I am ashamed to call myself British. We have a Government (does not matter which Party is in power) who either do not understand the needs of ordinary people or simply do not care; a Justice System which frankly is useless - when a person is sentenced to a certain length of time they should do that time and not get their sentence halved as always seems to be the case. Criminals these days literally "get away with murder" and we wonder why this disgraceful scenes are on our television screens today. It is only a matter of time before this country descends into anarchy.

Rioting is when a demonstration against a political raceme or something of the like breaks out into violence. Rioting not looting & robbing I don't believe for one moment anything that has gone on over the last three days has anything to do with the shooting of the young man in north London.
Its just mindless thuggery from mindless degenerates who have no concept of the damage they are causing to the country their neighbours and themselves. It is very sad but its the sign of the times.

This country is way to soft!!...There is no proper punishment for these crimes! It is time to get tough!...The government need to wake up and live in the real world!!!!...Get the army in and put a stop to these scum!!!

These are kids who are playing a computer game in real life. They are on holiday from school, the parents are working, they're bored, they don't have any money and with their distorted view on life they think this is fun and exciting. It all comes down to a lack of parental control and a poor education with the teachers terrified of imposing any form of discipline. As a country we need to withdraw from the european human rights act (they lean so far to the left they're falling over) bring back national service (you either go to university or the army) and give the police some muscles instead of paperwork. Here endeth the lesson.

Can I ask any of you who live near or amongst these areas affected to please check on any elderly people you know and give them some reassurance. There are probably many living alone who are watching all this on the tv and are scared to death of going outside of their homes. And quite rightly, I'm scared by it all and I'm not elderly.

We are too soft in this country, actions have no consequences and as an earlier poster said, teachers are too scared to impose any discipline. The "black community" needs to look at itself and ask why their youngsters seem to have an attitude that other immigrant groups dont have. I will be labelled as racist but this is not racism, some people of afro carribean descent know the truth and a proper debate needs to be had.

From the pictures and news footage it is clear that they are members of an under achieving ethnic minority that is over-represented when it comes to crime. They use the colour of their skin to justify their under achievement and dissatisfaction in society as a whole. While other ethnic minorities don’t seem to have this issue, therefore their culture and ethnicity is the only factor and not just because they are black!

Anyone that is arrested or detained who is on benefits should have the benefits stopped and be made to re apply. Anyone who has a job should have to re apply for that.

this is just mindless vandalism now OK it started off after the shooting, but now it is a case of thug rule. The country is in a bad way to start off with without all this going on, people should stop blaiming the authorities and blame the thugs.

The army can't come in because they are serving in Afghanistan. We are keeping law and order 15, 000 miles away and can't do anything here in the UK. The riot police are either not trained well enough or they have been ordered not to be ruthless because of this political correctness @#$%!!. I don't understand in london most of the police have guns; point the @#$% guns at them they will run away, if not shoot them in the legs. Innocent people livlihood have been destroyed, homes destroyed, businesses destroyed, goods stolen. Bills have to paid, rent has to be paid, staff have to be paid. Some decent hardworking families may end up homeless because of this damage. If someone came to my home and threatened me or my business, if i had a firearm i would shoot to kill. In the United states and even Canada citizens have that right. I am sick of hearing this ghetto talk that this scum hate the police because of stop and search and that a gang member was killed. If balck people are stop and searched does that mean it gives you the right to destroy peoples homes and businesses. I am not racist so i made some comments defending against some racist comments that came out earlier on posts, but not anymore. Black people have dug their own grave here in UK, honest hardworking people are suffering with the economy and just trying to make ends meet with bills and we can only take so much. A time will come where enough is enough. Blacks in the ghetto need to heed this warning.
