    Year in Review 2012: Fond farewells

    The past 12 months saw the passing of some truly respected and much-loved world figures and celebrities. Yahoo! takes a look back at some of those we said goodbye to in 2012.

    1. Neil Armstrong: Over four decades on from his historic moonwalk, first man on the moon Armstrong died on August 25, aged 82. The former NASA astronaut suffered complications from heart surgery.
    2. Bob Holness: The much-loved Blockbusters host died on January 6, aged 83. The veteran presenter, who hosted the show for 11 years, suffered a series of strokes and died in his sleep.
    3. Donna Summer: The 'Hot Stuff' singer and Seventies icon died on May 17 aged 63, after a secret battle with cancer. (PA)
    4. Robin Gibb: The Bee Gees singer passed away on May 20 after a long cancer battle. The dad-of-three, who died aged 62, had suffered from colon and liver cancer (Reuters))
    5. Sid Waddell: The darts world was in mourning on August 11 afte the passing of legendary commentator Waddell, who died aged 72.
