Pilot's Remains Found After Tornado Crash

The remains of RAF Flight Lieutenant Adam Sanders, who died when two Tornado GR4 jets crashed in the Moray Firth this month, have been recovered off the coast of Scotland.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the remains of the 27-year-old had been found and formally identified following the July 3 crash.

"Formal identification has been completed and the next of kin have been informed," the MoD said in a statement.

Flt Lt Sanders was one of three RAF crew members who died in the crash, which occurred during a training flight off northern Scotland.

Flight Lieutenant Hywel Tomos Poole, 28, died in hospital after being airlifted from the crash scene.

The body of Squadron Leader Samuel Bailey, 36, is yet to be formally recovered, however, the MoD said "additional remains" have been found and are in the process of being identified.

The sole survivor of the crash, who has not been named, remains in hospital.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the next of kin of the aircrew involved in the accident at this very difficult time," the MoD said.

"The next of kin of the aircrew involved in this tragic incident and all at RAF Lossiemouth are very grateful for the tremendous show of public support."

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
