Denard Robinson is one of the biggest stars in college football even though he didn't make it to the Heisman Trophy ceremony this year or an All-America team, and even the president has taken notice.
Today in Ann Arbor, President Barack Obama gave a shoutout to Denard and the Michigan football and basketball teams during a speech.
Obama said that Michigan will be a "force to be reckoned with" because of Denard's return to school for his senior year, and also referenced Ann Arbor as the "home of the Sugar Bowl Champion Wolverines." Check out the link for the video of the speech.
He also noted that the basketball team in Ann Arbor is "pretty good too" which drew another round of applause. Students decked out in maize behind the president were among those clapping and shouting in approval during the speech. Yesterday many of the students lined up in the cold to wait for an opportunity to see the speech.
Obama closed out the series of remarks by shouting "Go Blue!" before changing the subject.
Robinson has become quite the celebrity since arriving on campus and becoming known as arguably the fastest and most explosive player in college football, despite the mistakes he's made.
A few nights earlier he was down on the court being interviewed by Fox Sports Net after hanging around the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons shootarounds as LeBron James and co. took jumpers.
People are drawn to the humble attitude and soft-spoken yet upbeat personality that Robinson possesses. While he has all the talent in the world he hasn't let it go to his head and that's part of the reason why he's so popular.
Michigan can only hope that Robinson continues to make the president proud in 2012 as the Wolverines hope to become Big Ten champions again in his final season.
