The Philadelphia Eagles are not in the Super Bowl. To make matters worse, the two teams that are in the big game tend to draw the ire of Eagles fans. The New York Giants are a hated division rival that few in the city can stand. Meanwhile the Patriots beat the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX and have been a dominant force in the game for a decade. As an Eagles fan I'll be cheering for the Patriots but not very hard. It's more about hating the Giants than anything else. But fans should still watch the game. Here are some reasons for Eagles fans to enjoy the Super Bowl.
Tom Brady can light up the Giants
The last two times the Giants have faced the Patriots haven't been ideal for Tom Brady. He lost to them in the Super Bowl four years ago and again this season. But the Giants have been carved up by elite quarterbacks in 2011. Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees had a field day against the Giants. There is reason to believe that Brady can do it as well. The Giants are weak on the corners so I would expect Brady to throw for 300 yards easy.
One team will lose
Sure, one of these teams is going to win the game. But that means another will lose. It might bring some small satisfaction to Eagles fans. That will especially be true of the Giants. If they win we will have to hear it for a long time. But if the Giants lose we can make fun of them just a little bit. If the Patriots lose it will hurt their legacy just a little bit because it will be clear that the Giants have their number.
Commercials
Super Bowl commercials have declined over the years but they are still entertaining. I am looking forward to seeing what Bud Light puts out this year. It should also be noted that Jerry Seinfeld will appear in a commercial and Matthew Broderick will reprise his Ferris Bueller role. We should also see some good movie trailers during the game.
It is a football game
At the end of the day, the biggest reason to watch is that we are still talking about football game. There won't be a meaningful football game until September after this one. We will all miss football during that time so we might as well enjoy watching it now. The Super Bowl is the one time we can really tolerate the game no matter what teams are playing. This should be a good game between two good teams. That makes it watchable in its own right.
