Barclays cuts 1,000 jobs at Goldfish unit

Reuters - Wednesday, May 7 05:02 pm

LONDON (Reuters) - Barclays is set to cut almost 1,000 jobs at its newly acquired Goldfish credit card unit as it closes a call centre and London headquarters to integrate the business with its Barclaycard operations.

Britain's largest credit card provider, which bought loss-making Goldfish from Discover Financial Services in February, said the Goldfish customer service centre in Cumbernauld, outside Glasgow, Scotland, employs some 900 people.

Some 90 employees work at the Goldfish London office.

Barclays, which will migrate the work from the Cumbernauld centre to other UK service centres before the end of the year, said it would try to find alternative roles for some of those affected.

Barclaycard is due to offer a range of products to Goldfish customers, but said details would be announced this summer. It is still considering whether to retain the Goldfish brand.
