LONDON (Reuters) - American R&B artist Ne-Yo gatecrashed Coldplay's domination of the charts, according to figures released on Sunday.
Having secured their first number one single last week with "Viva La Vida" -- the title track from their new album -- Coldplay slipped to two as Ne-Yo's "Closer" moved up one place to take the top spot, the Official UK Charts Company said.
In a largely static top 10, the biggest mover was U.S. pop singer Jordin Sparks and "No Air" -- featuring Chris Brown -- a record that climbed from 10 to number three, while R&B singer Brown's own single "Forever" rose one to four.
Coldplay enjoyed better success in the album charts as their fourth long-player "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" enjoyed a third week at number one.
Welsh singer Duffy's "Rockferry" was a non-mover at two as was veteran singer-songwriter Neil Diamond's "Home Before Dark" at three.
The album chart had two new top 10 entries with Icelandic rockers Sigur Ros and "Med Sud Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust" ("With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly") coming in at five and the Jonas Brothers' eponymous album entering at nine.
