Sale Win A Kicking Contest Against Worcester

Sale Sharks have moved up to 5th in the Premiership table after coming from behind to beat Worcester at Edgeley Park.

Fly-half Nick Macleod kicked five penalties as the Sharks beat the Warriors in a match devoid of any tries.

Former England fly-half Andy Goode landed three first-half penalties to give Worcester a 9-6 lead at the break, and when Macleod levelled the scores with his third penalty of the match, Goode's replacement Danny Gray restored the visitors' lead.

They were denied a third successive league win, though, when Macleod kicked two more penalties to secure a 15-12 victory for the Sharks that takes them up two places to 5th.

Despite their losing bonus point, Worcester remain 9th.

In the Pro12 League, Hanno Dirksen scored one of the tries of the season as the Ospreys edged out Edinburgh 15-14 at Murrayfield.

The South African-born winger brushed aside two opponents before collecting his own kick on his way to scoring the match-wiinning try. Earlier, Dougie Fife had scored his first try for Edinburgh - but he finished on the losing side as tries from Richard Hibbard and then Dirksen won it for the Ospreys.

Ulster are just outside the play-off places after beating Newport-Gwent Dragons 30-12 at Ravenhill.

They led 15-9 at the break, with Robbie Diack and Ruan Pienaar both scoring first-half tries. There were further scores from Craig Gilroy and Stefan Terblanche in the second-half that secured a bonus point win to move them up to 5th in the table.

Ulster are a point ahead of Cardiff Blues who marked their return to the Arms Park by beating Connacht.

The Irish side outscored the Blues by two tries to one with Tiernan O'Halloran and Dave Moore both going over for the visitors, and Sam Hobbs scoring for Cardiff - but Ben Blair made the difference. He kicked 17 points for the Blues as they won 22-15.
