Sarah Jessica Parker 'pondering' Sex and the City 3

(BANG) -

Sarah Jessica Parker is "pondering" a third 'Sex and the City' movie.

The 46-year-old actress - who has played writer Carrie Bradshaw in six TV series and two movie instalments of the romantic comedy franchise - considers there to be another "important" story to tell, but has not yet set the wheels in motion.

She said: "I think there is perhaps one more small, important story to tell. Whether or not we choose to do that and when we choose to do that remains, obviously, the unknown, but it's nice to ponder."

It had previously been thought a prequel to the TV series entitled 'The Carrie Diaries' may be made - based on a book by the author of the original 'Sex and the City' tomes, Candace Bushnell - and although Sarah Jessica thinks she has "proprietary" over the stories, she would be willing to consider someone else playing her character.

She told MTV News: "I think it always comes down to story and what is the story people want to tell.

"Obviously I feel proprietary in the best possible way about the entire franchise as it were, but I think there are lots of talented storytellers and obviously lots of talented actors who might be a part of it.

"I think, like anything, you base your opinion on material and content and I think that would be the only way for any of us to have an opinion."

While the first instalment of the movie - starring original cast members Sarah Jessica, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall - made $415 million at the box office worldwide, the follow-up 'Sex and the City 2' was a critical bomb and made $288 million.
