A SECTION of motorway was closed this morning after a bus burst into flames. 

Emergency services were called to the M8 eastbound near Junction 22 at around 2.20am following a report of a bus on fire.

A section of the road was closed for around 25 minutes while the fire was extinguished.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson confirmed to fire engines were sent to the scene and left around 3.35am.

It is understood there were no passengers on board the bus at the time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.20am on Saturday, July 30, officers were called to a report of a bus on fire on the M8, near to junction 22.

"Emergency services attended and the road was closed for around 25 minutes whilst the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service."

An SFRS spokesperson: "We were called to reports of a coach on fire on the M8 Eastbound at 2:19am this morning.

"SFRS mobilised two appliances to the scene.

"It was left in the hands of the police with the last crews leaving the scene at 3:34am."
