In the last year it seems like Selena Gomez's acting career has been overshadowed by her relationship with Justin Bieber. But her legion of fans knows that the star of the Emmy Award-winning series "Wizards of Waverly Place," is way more than just Justin's girlfriend. Now comes news that Gomez plans to expand her double threat status as an actress and singer, by becoming a movie producer, too.
Selena Gomez Options "The Sky Is Everywhere"
Just days ago Deadline.com broke the news that Gomez's production company July Moon optioned the film rights for the book "The Sky Is Everywhere." Not only that but they report that Gomez intends to play the starring role - 17-year-old Lennie Walker.
The novel by Jandy Nelson tells the tail of bookish, band geek Lennie. The teen lives in the shadow of her outgoing older sister Bailey until she unexpectedly dies. In the wake of her sister's passing, Lennie must juggle her attraction for the new boy in town and Bailey's distraught boyfriend.
Selena Gomez Has Two More Movies in the Works
"The Sky Is Everywhere" is not the only film in the works at July Moon. Gomez's company has also optioned the project "13 Reasons Why," based on the book by Jay Asher. Gomez is rumored to be taking on the title role of Hanna Baker, a teenage girl who takes her own life.
While she works on getting those two projects to the big screen, Gomez isn't resting on her laurels. She's currently in pre-production on the crime drama "Spring Breakers." In the movie she plays one of four college coeds who gets tossed in jail after robbing a restaurant for spring break money. As if that wasn't bad enough, the girls get bailed out by a drug dealer who demands they do his bidding. She stars along with James Franco, "Glee's" Heather Morris, "Sucker Punch's" Vanessa Hudgens and relative newcomer Ashley Lendzion.
