If you're of a certain age, chances are you spent a fair part of your adolescence fantasising about riding one of the hover bikes from the Star Wars films. That fantasy has now become a reality after a Californian research team released a video demoing the futuristic vehicle.
Aerofex has spent the best part of four years perfecting their hover bike, having seen previous versions go up in smoke, quite literally. However, their latest offering can hover up to 15 feet in the air, reaching speeds of 30 miles per hour.
The hover bike is not quite as streamlined as the speederbike Luke Skywalker zips around the forests of Endor in Return of the Jedi, but that doesn't dampen our enthusiasm to have a go on one.
The video below shows the Aerofex team testing the hover bike through the Mojave Desert in the US, though no storm troopers are seen throughout the footage.
