Surgeons have successfully removed a 33lb tumour from the body of a two-year-old boy.
An X-ray showing two-year-old Jesus Rodriguez's tumour before the operation.Jesus Rodriguez was born with the benign lump which went from his right armpit down to his hip. It was heavier than the youngster who at the time of surgery weighed 26lb.
It took surgeons ten hours at the La Raza Medical Centre in Mexico City, Mexico, to complete the operation and the child is now said to be recovering well.
Doctors said it was the first time a tumour bigger than the person carrying it had been removed in Mexico.
This compares to an operation which took place in Vietnam in January where a man had a tumour weighing an astonishing 198lb removed from his right leg in a 12-hour procedure.
Prior to surgery, Nguyen Duy Hai, 31, was warned there was a danger he could die from the operation to remove the 3ft-wide tumour.
He was only able to afford the operation after raising funds through donations while the surgeon leading the operation waived his fee.
