Love, Love Me Do: Sir Paul Weds Nancy Shevell

Sir Paul McCartney has married American heiress Nancy Shevell at a London register office.

The couple waved to waiting fans as they left Westminster Register Office at around 4.30pm.

Crowds cheered as McCartney, dressed in a suit and tie, and Ms Shevell , in an ivory-coloured dress, left the building.

Sky's Simon Newton, reporting from outside the venue, said that Ms Shevell was wearing a dress designed by the musician's daughter Stella.

They had arrived to cheers and waves an hour earlier.

Former Beatle band mate Ringo Starr gave a peace sign to fans as he arrived for the ceremony.

It is believed that only around 30 family and close friends were invited to the wedding.

After the service the newly married couple were driven back to Sir Paul's house in nearby St John's Wood.

Sky News understands there will be around 135 guests at the reception.

On Saturday, hundreds of pale pink and yellow roses were taken into a marquee that had been erected in the garden.

Sir Paul's marriage to his first wife Linda ended when she died of cancer in 1998. They were married at the same venue as today's ceremony.

He then wed ex-model Heather Mills in a lavish ceremony at Ireland's Castle Leslie, but they split up and the marriage ended in 2008 in an acrimonious divorce.

After a four-year romance Sir Paul became engaged to Ms Shevell, who was previously married to New York lawyer Bruce Blakeman, earlier this year.
