Two brothers have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man whose decapitated body was found on fire on a street in Stockport.
John Grainger, 32, was discovered by firefighters in Stockport, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of Thursday as they tackled a blaze nearby.
He died after being beaten on the head with a blunt instrument before being shot in the head, a post mortem found.
It is believed he was then decapitated. His head was found close to his body.
Anthony Jenkins, 31, and his 29-year-old brother Joseph Jenkins were brought up to the dock separately before Stockport magistrates to confirm only their personal details in a brief hearing.
They were remanded in custody until Tuesday when they will appear before Manchester Crown Court.
Both men had been arrested by police on suspicion of possessing shotgun cartridges prior to the discovery of the body.
The victim's family released a statement paying tribute to "a cheeky and loveable character who was a fantastic brother and uncle to his niece and nephews".
They said he "loved football and was an avid fan of Manchester United".
He had also "wanted to become a dad one day and was looking forward to what the future held".
Superintendent Pete Matthews from Greater Manchester Police said: "Our thoughts are with John's family at this tragic time, as they try to come to terms with the loss of their loved one."
