Accenture to help firms go green

By David Neal VNU Net - Wednesday, July 23 12:30 pm

Global services firm Accenture today announced a suite of tools aimed at helping firms improve their green activities by assessing their energy consumption and efficiency.

Announcing the suite Steve Nunn, global lead for Green IT at Accenture, said, The new tools, whether used together or individually, provide organisations with much-needed insight into their power consumption and environmental footprint. By implementing the specific, tailored green recommendations, organizations can achieve measurable environmental improvements that contribute to bottom line savings.

The Accenture Green Technology Suite lets firms assess where they sit within what it is calling a "green maturity spectrum". Once an initial assessment has been carried out, Accenture will make suggestions of where savings could be made. In order to do this the suite comprises a number of elements; a Green maturity model, a Data center estimator, and a Workplace estimator.

The first of these asks the user some 300 questions about their working practices, their office environment, data centre, procurement and corporate social responsibility activities. Once this is completed Accenture will rate the firm on a scale of 0-5, depending on their activities.

Next the Data centre estimator is used to provide an idea of the environmental and financial impact of the facility. Again this makes a number of suggestions, recommending how and where energy can be reduced. For example, Accenture said that changes could be made to a firms' air conditioning, server, storage, or networking components.

Finally, the Workplace estimator can be used to develop policies for the running of existing and any new equipment that might be used in the office environment. A web-based tool, this is used by Accenture consultants to identify the impact of equipment. Once this is completed it will provide a roadmap for firms to follow.
