Video: Bear cub trapped in garage saved by mother

Two agitated bears in your garage - it is a sight that would terrify most homeowners. But new video that has emerged of a frantic mother and her cub in a suburban area of California is more heartwarming than horrifying.

The amazing footage, filmed by California resident Judy Coovers, shows a bear cub trapped in her garage after climbing up the eight-foot-high railings.

Crying out, the cub shakily edges along the rails, barely managing to hold on as its worried mum forces the doors open and beckons her young one down. Mustering up all its courage, the cub gingerly lowers itself to the ground, cleverly employing a set of step ladders for its descent.

Since Judy Coovers posted the clip online last week it has become a viral sensation, being watched more than 250,000 times.

Ms Coovers told ABC News: “Baby bear is crying and he’s up on the track of the garage over here and I’m like ‘oh no, this isn’t good, how am I going to get him down from there?
“So I started videotaping, and all of a sudden the door starts coming up.

“[It rose] a foot, and then it would drop back down.  Then it would come back up and drop back down.  And I thought, ‘ah, that’s how the baby got in,’ because mama was probably trying to lift that door to come into the garage because of the garbage.”

“And he probably ran right in and it slammed shut on him.”
