Video footage emerges of ‘Gaddafi’s escape tunnel’

Video footage has emerged of Libyan rebel forces uncovering an underground tunnel in Tripoli – thought to be the route Gaddafi used to escape from his besieged compound when rebels took control of it on Tuesday.

Warning: This raw video footage includes some swearing.
The footage shows rebels entering the tunnel from what appears to be a vent and travelling down the corridors where they come across food supplies, a telephone room and one of Gaddafi’s golf buggies.

It was widely rumoured that Gaddafi had a series of underground tunnels with which he could make his escape but this is the first actual footage from within one.

The National Rebel Council took control of Gadaffi’s compound – including his home – on Tuesday evening. Shortly afterwards the Colonel issued a statement claiming that he had made a “tactical retreat” but was still in Tripoli.

The National Transitional Council, having taken control of much of the nation’s capital, are still hunting for Colonel Gaddafi and have offered a £1 million reward for the former dictator – dead or alive.
