Warsi takes battle for Christianity to the Vatican

    By Ian Dunt

Sayeeda Warsi will consult with the Pope on how to return Christianity to a central role in British public life during a trip to the Vatican today.

The Muslim Tory co-chairman is leading a high-level government delegation to celebrate 30 years of full diplomatic relations between the UK and papacy.

"My fear is that, today, militant secularisation is taking hold of our societies," she will say in a speech later.

"We see it in a number of things: when signs of religion cannot be displayed or worn in government buildings, and where religion is sidelined and downgraded in the public sphere.

"For me one of the most worrying aspects about this militant secularisation is that at its core and in its instincts it is deeply intolerant. It demonstrates similar traits to totalitarian regimes – denying people the right to a religious identity because they were frightened of the concept of multiple identities."

Baroness Warsi, who opposes multiculturalism, will say that European countries must embrace their Christian heritage without becoming theocracies.

"It seems astonishing to me that those who wrote the European constitution made no mention of God or Christianity," she will say.

"Too often there is suspicion of faith in our continent hinging on a basic misconception – that to create equality and space for minorities we need to erase our religious heritage.

"You cannot and should not extract Christian foundations from the evolution of our nations any more than you should or could erase the spires from our landscapes".

The trip comes just days after the high court ruled Bideford town council had acted unlawfully in saying prayers as part of formal proceedings.

David Cameron and Speaker John Bercow insisted such a move would not apply to parliament, where prayers traditionally begin each day's session in the Commons.

The pope warned against 'atheist extremism' during a trip to the UK in 2010.

Standing next to the Queen, he said: "Let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society and thus to a reductive vision of the person and his destiny".

Recent efforts by the Church to take a role in the social and political life of the country have been decidedly problematic however.

St Paul's Cathedrals response to the Occupy movement camping on its doorstep led to a spate of resignations, while the Archbishop of England's forays into politics – usually from a left-of-centre perceptive – have prompted alarm and anger among conservatives.

Yes, good to get advice from the pointy head and chief!!!!! Maybe she should spend her time of finding understanding between her own indoctrinated beliefs in Islam and the multi-departmental christians of the UK. Instead of heading over to the man thats well past his sell by date!

Unlike religious believers, secularists are unlikely to be willing to die for anything. So, in the immortal words of Harry Hill, I say, "There's only one way to find out, FIGHT! FIGHT!! "

& there you have a huge argument against religion. One of the reasons religion was invented was to brainwash people into killing & dying for their leaders.

Christ died willingly because Truth has nowhere to hide.

So no one has ever died for their political or ideological beliefs then Hedjuk? only the religious have that "honour"? So all of those British and Commonwealth service personnel who died in WW1 and WW2, as well as other wars, their sacrifice doesn't count? Way to go insulting their memory and what they stood for.

We are where we are! - and we got here by being Ruled by The 'Established Elite' who can be traced back to Before Christ. The only reasonable sense that can be made of 'Christianity' is surely to give a reason for the Slaves to continue working, without complaint, for The Establishment (Slave Drivers) of the period. (work away in the knowledge that when you die you will enjoy 'eternal live' in Heaven whilst The Establishment will Burn-in-Hell.
The sooner we achieve a 'Democracy' and cease to be controlled by the 'Slave Drivers' (ilk Cameron-Rothchild) the better. Roman Catholicism is Evil! Wake up Mrs Warsi

What is this #$%$ Is she a muslim or not? If so why is she defending Christianity? Why is she 'battling' on its' behalf? This smacks of nothing more than a contrived event to present 'islam' as tolerant and willing to jump to the defence of a 'faith' it considers corrupted and worthless. Ffs, her allah won't be at all happy about this, UNLESS she is being deceitful, putting on a show for the press to demonstrate how she isn't an islamist. It's utter b0ll0cks if you ask me. Totally contrived.
