White House Hero Dogs Cleared For Duty

Two dogs which attacked a White House intruder have been cleared to return to duty after being treated for minor bruising.

Dominic Adesanya, 23, climbed over the fence surrounding the building on Wednesday night and was swiftly apprehended by uniformed Secret Service agents and their dogs.

The canines, Jordan, five, and Hurricane, six, were kicked and slammed to the ground as they sought to stop the intruder.

The Belgian Malinois were rushed to the vet after the attack.

The dogs are part of K-9, an explosives detection unit that was created in 1976, according to the Secret Service's website.

Adesanya has been charged with two federal offences: unlawfully entering the restricted grounds of the White House and harming two law enforcement dogs that were released to take him down.

A preliminary hearing and detention hearing have been scheduled for Monday.

His father told ABC's Baltimore affiliate WMAR that Adesanya is "mentally disturbed" and had previously gone to the White House in an attempt to talk to President Barack Obama.

The US leader was at the White House at the time of the incident, but the intruder never made it close to the building.

Wednesday's security scare happened just over a month after another man, armed with a knife, sprinted across the same lawn , ran past agents and entered the mansion. He was apprehended in the East Room.

Omar Gonzalez, an Iraq veteran who reportedly suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, was detained.

The incursion embarrassed the Secret Service and ultimately led to Julia Pierson's resignation as director of the agency after 18 months on the job.
