Wills Proves Street Cred With 'Swag' Dance

Prince William proved his street credibility with south London teenagers last night, by creating a new dance.

The Duke of Cambridge came up with the "swag dance" while visiting the Camberwell Foyer shelter for homeless youth.

The moves involve brushing imaginary dust off your shoulders while your partner mirrors you.

In the royal's case, everyone cheered and brushed their shoulders in unison while he and 18-year old Vanessa Boateng, a resident at the centre, performed the dance for the cameras.

The dance was inspired by Ms Boateng's comment about the Duke's wedding outfit - as a Colonel of the Irish Guards, Prince William wore the regiment's scarlet red tunic at his wedding in April.

"William asked us what we thought about what he wore to his wedding, He said, was his suit dapper?" the trainee nurse recalled.

"I said: 'No, your swag was on point.' He repeated my words and said 'swag', then he started doing this dance."

The royal couple donned aprons during their visit, taking part in a healthy living cookery session. The Duchess of Cambridge made festive mince pies while her husband made gingerbread cookies and cut out pastry shapes

The youth shelter in Camberwell, which is run by Centrepoint , houses 80 troubled youth.

One resident, Olivia, told Sky News: "They come across quite normal. I didn't think like, 'Oh my gosh, this is the future King and Queen'."

Prince William has been the patron of the charity since 2005, and made headlines two years ago when he spent a night sleeping rough on the streets with the homelessness charity's boss.

His mother, Princess Diana was also patron of the charity, and often took the princes on private visits to its shelters.
