Wedding Guest Billed By Newlyweds For No-Show, Prompting Massive Online Debate

A US woman received an invoice in the post after failing to show up to a family wedding - and it’s since gone viral.

Jessica Baker, from Andover, Minnesotta, pulled out of the child-free nuptials at the last minute after her mother annouced she could no longer babysit.

The bride and groom weren’t happy with Jessica’s decision, promptly invoicing her for the cost of her and her husband’s meals.

The couple were billed for a herb crusted walleye each, plus tax and service charges, making a total of $75.90 (£50).

A note on the bottom of the invoice said: “This cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RSVP-ed for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated”.

Jessica promptly posted the invoice on the Facebook page of local news channel Kare 11, where it quickly went viral.

Jessica told Kare 11 that her response when she received the invoice was, “you’ve got to be kidding me,” adding, “the whole thing is just kind of silly. I guess I don’t know what the right thing to do would have been”.

This reminds us of the time a five-year-old’s parents were invoiced for the cost of his place at a friend’s party after he failed to turn up.

Has the world gone mad, or are these irate organisers justified in wanting to recoup what they shelled out for the no-shows?

Either way, Jessica has learned her lesson, saying: “I don’t think I’ll be missing another wedding again!”
