World's fattest man is revealed to be British and weighs 58 stone

“I hate what I have done to myself.”

The world’s fattest man weighs in at 58 stone and is British.

Keith Martin, of Harlesden, North-West London, has been bed-ridden for a decade and took the dubious accolade from Mexican Manuel Uribe who lost 60 stone to hit 31 stone after dieting.

The round-the-clock care Mr Martin needs is to be shown in a documentary which will be screened later this month. Because his health is so fragile he has a team of 18 people looking after him - including his sisters, nurses and ambulance staff.

With a 6ft waist the former warehouseman, 42, is now wider than his 5ft 9in height.

Mr Martin’s daily diet includes eight hotdogs and ham sandwiches for breakfast, a selection of chocolate bars and biscuits for lunch and two roast dinners with a whole bag of oven chips, the Daily Mail reports.

He spends the day watching TV leaving his bed only for vital health check-ups.

Mr Martin is one of a million Britons who have developed the lethal condition which was triggered  following the death of his mother.

Mr Martin told Channel 5: “My mother died when I was 16 and I didn’t care about anything after that and I couldn’t care less about what happened to me – I ate anything and everything,” the Mail quoted him as saying.

“I blame myself. It was my fault and I hate what I have done to myself.”

During the first episode of ‘Big Body Squad’ on Channel 5, viewers will learn how his army of carers battle to get his sheer frame home following a stay in hospital.

The series aims to raise awareness of the plight of those who suffer from being extremely overweight.

‘Big Body Squad’ begins on Wednesday, February 22, at 8pm on Channel 5.

Why dont the 18 people looking after him just stop feeding him hot dogs, oven chips, chocolate etc?
      • I 26 days ago
Exactly, my sentiments as well. And how on earth can he afford to buy all this junk food. Unemployment benefit doesn't go that far!!

I suppose we are now going to hear that its his "human right" to eat what he wants. If he is bedridden how the hell does he get all that food? i've been bedridden with a broken leg for 6 weeks and lost half a stone because i couldnt get to the biscuit tin,

If he is bed-ridden the people who feed him are partly to blame, they should just feed him a lot less.
      • claire 3 months ago
or not bother at all and send the food to those who are starving in this country
      • Ludonial 3 months ago

    • pebbles  •  3 months ago
why are the carers pandering to him by feeding such gross amounts of food, seeing as he can't get out of bed it should be easy to give him just the food he needs not all the rubbish they are feeding him.
      • Baize 3 months ago
Exactly and it's not rocket science is it.If we are using 18 people to look after him surely someone is in charge of his diet.
      • patricia 3 months ago

You are looking at this from the wrong perspective, Bird Dog. You, me & the rest of the great gullible tax paying army are paying for this ludicrous abuse of all of us.

Why do they keep bringing him this volume of food? Why on earth don't they regulate his intake. It's not as if he can slip into his tracksuit and jog down to the chippy, is it?
    • M  •  Manchester, England  •  26 days ago
18 people to look after him? This is a serious one-man drain on NHS and welfare resources. Surely people like this should be seriously treated long before they get to this state! The NHS cannot keep affording to (and I use this term loosely) "look after" people like this. Why do they keep feeding him? Are they hoping they will feed him to death so he won't cost anything any longer?
    • Paul  •  27 days ago
If he is so ashamed, why doesn't he do something about it? Why do his sisters enable his eating?
    • michele  •  Ilford, England  •  3 months ago
the carers and sisters have a duty of care and they are failing miserably, why hasnt he been sectioned if he is self harming? AND how the bloody hell can he afford so much food when he obviously relies on benifits????? Those of us who EARN a living, struggle to put food on the table.
    • Yvonne  •  Manchester, England  •  3 months ago
what a waste of rescources stop feeding him so much and cut down on the carers give him gastric band surgery and help the really needy people instead!
    • alan  •  Torpoint, England  •  27 days ago

Oh, my mother died so I shall do my best to die also, but rack up a huge gnikcuf food bill for the NHS and the people of Britain in the process because I deserve it. Because my mother died. Did I tell you my mother died? (chomp, chomp, glug, glug, munch, munch...oh....I'll just p1ss and #$%$ into the bags they've attached to to me and take them away. New ones will be fitted immediately). Ya, when I was 16 she died, so for the past TWENTY SIX YEARS I have been stuffing my cake-hole. Pass me the channel changer will you? Oh, I'd fancy a snack right now, how about another roast? NHS = S T U P I D Why not just shoot this silly tnuc and save ourselves a fortune? I mean it's not like his mother is going to grieve is it?
    • Dreamer  •  3 months ago
Put him in hospital - he would soon diet on the £2 something that each patient's food budget is per day.

I see loads of people giving their OPINION on an EATING DISORDER.. well it's not really their opinion, they are just repeating what they have been told by others. So does that mean that nearly HALF the people in UK and USA have eating disorders too?
We can all sit there stuffing our face with CHOCOLATE CRISPS CAKES AND SWEETS, because that is our CHOICE(and that includes me too, I just adore chocolate and could eat it till it pops out of my ears). Some are just more greedier and lazier than others, Chocolate and sweets are an EASY MEAL that you dont have to prepare, it's also cheap and affordable for everyone. When it comes to exercise it's easy to sit in a chair all day and do nothing, and sometimes even the fittest people lack motivation to go and exercise. There is no SECRET here, we have to WORK HARD to keep our BODIES in SHAPE.
Only the dedicated ones survive. Once a bit of warm weather arrives you'll see the over weight ones hitting the streets in force wearing their NEW JOGGING GEAR. But sadly after a few weeks numbers start to dwindle, because they've either given up or find it too hard. And instead they go home feeling sorry for themselves and get comfort from a bar of chocolate.
