YouTube Picks 10 Films For Venice Festival

YouTube's inaugural film festival has selected 10 short films that it will send to the Venice Film Festival.

The Google video site has announced the finalists of the Your Film Festival, a contest overseen by director Ridley Scott.

"These 10 finalists have achieved something quite remarkable and are all clearly talents to watch," Scott said.

"People may be surprised to know that making a short film is very difficult, but these filmmakers have all succeeded in realising their visions and I congratulate them on this achievement."

All 10 films will be shown at the Venice Film Festival on September 2.

The winner is chosen by a jury, which includes Scott, and will be awarded a £319,000 grant and a development deal with the Alien director's Scott Free Productions.

Submissions came from all over the world and the finalists reflect the global reach of the festival.

The finalists include entries from the UK, Australia, Brazil, Bolivia, Spain, Lebanon and Egypt.
