£1 drinks from Liverpool company are my go to as a runner
After much trial and error, I think I have finally found the ultimate recovery drink—and better yet, it is made by a Liverpool-based company. Good To Go is the brainchild of Maghull’s Chris Edwards.
The 47-year-old left his job as a taxi driver to create his brand after he was tired of having the same conversation with his passengers repeatedly. The entrepreneur, who has always been into fitness, wanted to “simplify the minefield” topic of nutrition after he realised how many people struggled to understand the topic. And I think he has done exactly that, as I have been drinking his products for just under three weeks and I'm impressed.

The business owner’s bottles of liquid are, essentially, packed with electrolytes and ginkgo biloba - two ingredients that have been helping to keep my mind and body hydrated as I train for the Manchester Marathon and captain a rugby team.
It is well-documented that keeping your electrolytes at an optimal level will improve your overall fitness performance. I tend to take the recovery drink every other day as this fits in with my workout regime. Although they come in a range of different flavours, including tropical and fizzy fruits, I have my favourites. Although quite sweet, the cherry is very moreish, whereas the blue lemonade and apple remind me of WKD and Appletiser.
As they are only 330ml, it means I haven’t been forcing myself to down litres of liquid just for the sake of a few ingredients. The hydration bottles are best taken after an intense session, whereas the protein bottles can be taken as and when you see fit. I choose to take this bottle before a workout, especially if I don’t have time to make a high-protein meal after a day in the office, but still want to hit my intake goal.
Although the sugar-free bottles alone won’t be enough to help me achieve my marathon time goal in April, for a quid, they are a welcome addition to my weekly supplements.
