£10 Aldi gin is judged one of the best in the world by experts

Aldi is well known for highlighting the similarities between its own products and more premium versions and now the brand has been able to prove it’s as good as its word, after winning accolades for its £9.97 home brand gin.

At the recent International Wine and Spirits Challenge (IWSC) – one of the most prestigious alcohol competitions in the world – the gin beat off stiff competition to claim the Gold medal for Dry Gin, triumphing over a premium bottle costing four times the price.

The Foxhole London Dry Gin, which was priced at £39.95, won the Silver.

The Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin also went on to scoop the Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range of the Year Award along with 20 other medals, proving it could hold its own against other industry giants.

Following on from its recent rosé success at the International Wine Challenge, this extraordinary win is perfect timing for the chain store, as the Office for National Statistics has recently reinstated the spirit into the average shopping basket due to its increasing popularity.

Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, Tony Baines, said of the victory: “Receiving medals for our spirits is a fantastic achievement and it is great to see our range being praised so high by experts.”
