Undoubtedly one of the best things about living in London is how easy it is to access European travel.

With many budget airlines operating in all of London’s airports, travelling to a new country for a weekend is the norm - and for the most part it can hardly make a dent in your wallet.

Next weekend is Easter. Good Friday and Easter Monday are taken as public holidays in the UK meaning we have a four-day weekend - so what better time to go and explore Europe?

1. Glasgow, Scotland

Head north for the weekend and discover the delights of Glasgow. With a short flight time, you’ll have four days to soak up the wonders of Scotland’s art capital. Lap up the culture or head out into the highlands with Loch Lomond just a short drive away.

2. Gdansk, Poland

The port city of Gdansk is a melting pot of architectural influence from Austria, Germany and Holland all formed to create one gorgeous city. While there, make sure you visit the Long Market (Długi Targ), the 1618 Golden House and the 1560 Green Gate buildings – some of the best examples of medieval Polish architecture.

Gdansk is also a great base for some day trips to Polish castles like the Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork.

3. Gothenburg, Sweden

While Stockholm is Sweden’s tourist hotspot, Gothenburg - with it’s covetable Nordic design, modern art, craft beer and enviable food scene - is undoubtedly it’s coolest city.

Close to the Hungarian border, you could even tick off two countries during your long weekend. Kosice is located in eastern Slovakia and contains a number of points of architectural interest. Make sure you check out Spiš Castle, an expansive, ruined 12th century castle for some other-wordly beauty.
