The 10 most dangerous places to live in England and Wales

We don’t always feel safe walking around alone but some places in Britain are a lot more dangerous than others.

In fact, Home Office figures - taken between September 2014 to September 2015 - show the number of cases of homicide, attempted murder and conspiracy to murder across the country.

Here are the 10 most dangerous places across England and Wales…

10. Amber Valley, 7 dangerous crimes, Population: 123,942

The Derbyshire borough completes the top 10, with 7 crimes over the year out of a population of over 123,000. This equates to 5.6 crimes for every 100,000 people. (Pic: Getty)

9. Hackney, 15 dangerous crimes, Population: 263,150

The London borough has become more gentrified in recent years and with 15 murderous crimes over the year out of a population of more than a quarter of a million, it comes ninth in the list with 5.7 murder-related crimes for every 100,000 people. (Pic: Wikipedia)

8. Rochdale, 13 dangerous crimes, Population: 107,926

A market town, also in Greater Manchester, Rochdale has 6.1 murderous crimes for every 100,000 people. (Pic: Geograph)

7. Salford, 15 dangerous crimes, Population: 242,040

A higher population also sees Salford - a metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester - lower down on the list, with 6.2 crimes in every 100,000. (Pic: Wikipedia)

6. Manchester, 33 dangerous crimes, Population: 520,215

Despite its much larger rate of crimes, Manchester only comes in sixth - with 6.3 crimes for every 100,000 - due to its much higher population of over half a million. (Pic: Getty)

5. Lincoln, 7 dangerous crimes, Population: 119,541

Lying just 30 miles away from first-place Boston, Lincoln had 7 murder incidents over the space of a year - 7.3 in every 100,000. (Pic: Getty)

4. Blackpool, 11 dangerous crimes, Population: 142,065

Despite being a haven for staycationers, Blackpool makes it in fourth on the most dangerous list with 11 murder-related incidents over the year, equating to 7.8 in every 100,000. (Pic: Getty)

3. Gloucester, 10 dangerous crimes, Population: 125,649

With the same level of murderous crimes, Gloucester’s higher population sees it placed lower in the list than Boston, working out at 8 in every 100,000. (Pic: Getty)

2. City of London, 1 dangerous crime, Population: 8,072

The City of London’s second placing in the dangerous list is slightly misleading because of the financial centre’s small population. Nevertheless, its one crime works out at 12.4 for every 100,000. (Pic: Rex)
